The students at Tristar Martial Arts train in an eclectic style of martial arts called Shinkoryu. The students of T.M.A. of Old Bridge, NJ are members of Shinko-gen-ryu.

Shinkoryu is a blend of Goju Karate and Taekwondo with a heavy influence of American Folkstyle and Olympic Wrestling. There are fundamental elements of Eastern virtue and  patience entwined with Western codes of honor and character. Eastern meditation and breathing exercises are also combined with modern principles of Sports Science. Shinkoryu also has influences of Isshinryu Karate, Hapkido, Jujitsu and Judo, Muy Thai, Western Kick Boxing, Shatokan Karate, and American Karate. The Self Defense elements have been adapted from this fighting arts and combat sports, as well as Military Self Defense systems of America, Israel, and Russia.

Shinkoryu is Japanese for “style of new & old”. In other words it is a “new way of doing an old thing” or it is the style of mixing old and new techniques. Shinko is also Japanese for “to test one’s true self worth”; so Shinkoryu can also be called “the style of testing or learning your true value”. The T.M.A. Dojo would be the Dojo of Shinko-gen-ryu, or the main and original school of Shinkoryu.

Shinkoryu is a recognized Martial Art of several of the largest organizations in the Martial Arts world. Shinkoryu is a respected martial art in the eyes of the Goju World Federation, The Traditional Martial Arts World Council, The Korean National Taekwondo Federation, The WKF, The KMAA, and several regional organizations to the U.S.A.

Black Belts in Shinkoryu hold the distinct privilege of having equivalent Black Belts in Okinawan Gojuryu Karate as well as in Taekwondo. However their Black Belt in Shinkoryu and its meaning is one of the greatest honors a person can obtain.
